January 21st Meeting Announcement

CANCELLATION:

Due to the weather situation in Western Washington, the group has decided to cancel the January meeting.  Hope everyone is safe during the bad weather!

An additional note: TPTB at Swedish now close the cafeteria at 1pm (or 1:30 pm, depending on the source), on weekends, so in order to make any purchases or get tea, coffee or water, you must get it before closing time.

See everyone on February 18.

BRAIN AWARENESS OPEN HOUSE UPDATE

Brain Awareness Open House (BAW) will be held on March 7th from 9:30 am til 1:30 pm at MOHAI.  We will have a couple of reps from Medrtonic at the event.  Medtronic has ordered several hundred reusable bags for us to hand out.  Thanks, Leanne!  We are very grateful for all their help both last year & at this year's event.

I just got a 'new' digital camera.  Hopefully I'll be able to bring it & post some pictures from this year's event!

I'm still looking for some door prize items to give away at the event.  I'd love to have a couple of things, to spread it out over the four hours.

Stay safe!

Final Meeting for 2011

I can't believe that Saturday (December 17th) will be the final meeting for 2011!  The year has gone by so fast.  We are expecting some out of area friends and members for the meeting, which is always nice.  As always, we would love to see new faces as well.

I'm looking forward to 2012.  Lots of interesting things on the horizon for us, the least of which isn't Brain Awareness Week (BAW) Open House at Museum of History And Industry (MOHAI) on March 7th.  It is always a fun and interesting outreach event.  As always, hoping for lots of things to giveaway to the kids.  The event is just part of an awareness program put on by the University of Washington, to help raise awareness for kids from about 4th - 12th grade.

There are some tentitive projects in the works for next year, which have lots of promise for our outreach and awareness.

Look forward to seeing as many people at the final meeting & in 2012!

BRAIN AWARENESS WEEK OPEN HOUSE 2012

Just got notification of the 2012 BAW Open House date and time.  It will be on March 7, 2012, from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm at the Museum of History & Industry (MOHAI), south of the UW campus.  We are looking forward to seeing the kids from Western Washington schools to raise awareness of the condition of hydrocephalus.

We are also looking at more possibilities for our booth, from having more information and giveaway items to having shunt reps to demonstrate how shunts work and answer questions.

Last year's event was such a great success, we hope to build on that in 2012!

Brain Awareness Event On March 1st!

Hard to believe that the annual Brain Awareness Event is next Tuesday!  How time flies.  We should have lots of information available for the kids attending, as well as the teachers and parents.  There is always stuff that doesn't happen as you want it to, but things are looking good.  Checking off everything from the list to make sure we don't get caught short.

The packages of 'stuff' for our booth have been coming in the mail pretty regularly.  It is like Christmas in February.  None of the packages are being opened until we get to the event, so I keep looking, longingly, w/great anticipation, at every unopened box.  Tuesday is so close now!

Already thinking of next year's event!  What can we do to improve on this year's event.  Hopefully members who can't attend this year's event will be able to come next year.  They will certainly be missed this year.

February 2011 Meeting

Very productive meeting.  We discussed plans for the March 1, 2011 Brain Awareness open house even at MOHAI.  We have LOTS of literature to hand out, from various sources.  We are expecting at least one representative from Medtronic, one of the shunt manufacturers.  At last count there will be 650-700 middle & high school kids at the event.  Sign up for the event closed a few days ago.  Really looking forward to it.
